Traceback and Good Agricultural Practices

"Farmers should be able to track their produce 1 step back and 1 step forward."

Examples:
What field did it come from?  What store did you sell it to?
When was it harvested? What farmer's market or auction did you take it to?

Traceability:

Use a map of your fields to help create labels for tracing produce back to its field of origin.  GPS coordinates are also an option for traceback to the field.

Labels can include date of harvest and field (number or ID).  Other information may include a code identifying produce type, variety, or harvest crew ID.

The Food Safety Modernization Act asks that the smallest farmers, and those exempt, at least have the name of the farm and address on a label on the produce (high risk produce) or available at the point of sale (like a sign at the farmers' market).
